Conveniently situated in Suite 202 at 132 32nd Street, YogaSole Sunset Park is an easy destination for locals and newcomers alike who are looking to prioritize their well-being. It is a place where community grows, tension melts away, and students leave feeling refreshed, grounded, and inspired to return.
I decided to try yoga again a few weeks ago after doing none for many many years, but have really been feeling the benefits and wanted to keep it going on a trip to visit family in Sunset Park. Yoga Sole was pretty close and I signed up to their mailing list for their Black Friday offers. They offered one week unlimited for $35 which seemed perfect for a 4 night trip (but have a standing new student special of $67 for 2 weeks anyway) and I snapped it up. One of the reasons I’m bothering to write a review is that I had seen a very negative review of one of the instructors called Lawrence because he wouldn’t allow a new student to join the class late. I personally think it’s a good thing that yoga classes don’t allow latecomers because it’s kind of supposed to be a bit of an escape, I think, but admit that I did wonder what this Lawrence was like when he was going to be teaching the first class I took. My experience was entirely different to hers and found him to be a gentle spirit if anything, but he led us through a great (and thoughtful) class with fun and lighthearted moments. It was very different to the person described in the bad review and I have nothing negative to say about him or his teaching. He mentioned he’s going away for 6 months and it looked like his regulars were really disappointed to miss out - I can see why and I would love to learn more from him. I had 2 classes with Isabelle and absolutely loved her. She is a DOLL. The classes were varied and interesting, and I somehow found myself progressing a little in some of the postures which felt so satisfying. Despite it being such a short period of time, I will quite miss not getting to her classes when I go back to home and reality, and wish I lived closer because I would 100% be a regular. Jennifer ran the Sunday class and that had a more restorative vibe which I also enjoyed a lot. I picked up some great ideas and tips to bring back with me and she was very welcoming and helpful too. General notes: - It has a very warm and welcoming community feel. If you’re intimidated by the prospect of super limber advanced yogis doing crazy things and being all judgemental, that is not this place at all! Each class seemed to have a complete mix of people and it all seems very inclusive and accepting. They made me feel like I belonged. - I don’t think the photos do it justice because there’s something about the space that makes you feel better when you walk in. It’s very calming, full of light and somehow homely? A lovely place to feel at peace. - It’s a lovely space but you might struggle to find it if uninitiated and there is nobody at the front desk. I was saved by a lovely fellow student the first morning who saw me looking lost and directed me. It’s just off 4th Ave in the Briq building, but then you go right up a little staircase, right again, out a metal door and up a kind of fire escape, open the door and it’s on your right. There are a couple of armchairs outside in case you’re *too* early and they’re not ready for you yet. - Facilities in the room include hanging space for coats, shelves for bags, shoe racks/seats, tea/hair ties/tissues, and all the yoga props like bolsters, blankets, blocks etc. Mats can be rented if you don’t have one. I brought a very thin travel mat with me but it was fine because you can add a blanket for knees etc if required. - I know the negative reviewer was upset about not being allowed in, but they remind you that you have an upcoming class, allow you to cancel up to an hour before, advise you to be there 10 mins before and are v clear about lateness policy. Tl;dr summary: Beautiful studio which is very warm and welcoming, suitable for everyone. The teaching was great, the people were lovely and I would absolutely be a regular here if I lived nearby. I know I’ll make it my business to book a class (or 2) next time I’m in the area. Fingers crossed they offer some 5 class packs again and don’t just do it for Black Friday - getting there each day truly made a good trip even better and I miss it already.
Yoga Sole is a gift to Sunset Park! It is such a welcoming and beautiful yoga studio. After I took classes with a new student special I was beyond excited to join as a member for unlimited classes. I’ve been coming since February and I have found an endless list of benefits to my mind, body and spirit. I’m serious, my cholesterol lowered 20 points! There are so many different kinds of classes including Pilates, yoga, pre natal, post natal sound bath, restorative, breath work and more! Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon and evening too. And if you’re a member you can attend classes at both yoga studios! All of the teachers are phenomenal!
I was so happy to find a good yoga studio after moving to Sunset Park. I have taken several classes here so far and recently purchased a monthly unlimited membership after the 2-week intro special. They kindly applied the cost of the intro special to my first month of membership, which is amazing. All the instructors I have had so far, namely Sunee, Jennifer and Claire, have been so kind and helpful, getting to know people’s names and answering questions after class. I also appreciate asking if there is anything we wish to focus on or they should know before going into the practice, as well as the mindfulness each of them bring to the class, in combination with the physical aspect. That was important to me before joining in a world full of hot yoga.
I have been coming to Yoga Sole for nearly 5 months and I love it so much. There is a real sense of community that you don't always get at other studios, and every single instructor is warm and welcoming. The classes are challenging but not intimidating—a perfect balance. I'm so thrilled to have this in Sunset Park!
I am so thankful that I found YogaSole. I was searching for a space to do some body movement. I've tried out a few of the classes offered to see which worked best for my schedule and body. All instructors I've worked with are great and have made me feel really cared for and challenged. They make sure you know that you can move in the ways your body needs while also encouraging you to challenge yourself. I've noticed a difference with my body, breathe control, and connectedness to them both since joining. So glad to have found this community.
