Sati Yoga
About
Nestled in the lush surroundings of Sri Thanu on Koh Phangan, Thailand, Sati Yoga is a dedicated practice space founded in 2023 by Leon and Sunsanee. The studio takes its name from the Pali and Thai word for mindfulness — สติ — reflecting a clear and grounded philosophy: to help practitioners develop balance, resilience, and clarity both on and off the mat. Rather than chasing physical performance alone, the focus here is on cultivating genuine self-awareness through consistent, intentional practice.
The shala itself is a thoughtfully designed open-air space with hardwood floors, a high roof, and screens on all sides that allow the tropical breeze to flow through freely. It accommodates up to 25 students, maintaining an intimate atmosphere that supports focused individual practice within a welcoming community setting. The physical environment feels very much like a sanctuary — quiet, natural, and conducive to going inward.
Classes at Sati Yoga span a broad range of disciplines, including Vinyasa Power Yoga, Universal Yoga, Yoga Workout and Meditation, pranayama, breathwork, and various meditation techniques. The teaching team brings substantial experience and diverse training backgrounds. Studio founder Leon Vasilyev has over 15 years of yoga and meditation practice and has been teaching on Koh Phangan since 2014. Teacher Michael leads dynamic, breath-driven Vinyasa Power Yoga sessions focused on strength, mobility, and alignment. Katerina Alpatova guides students through Universal Yoga — a multi-faceted system aimed at creating balance across the physical, energetic, emotional, and mental layers of the self.
Beyond the regular class schedule, Sati Yoga also hosts workshops and offers the studio for private hire, making it a flexible resource for visiting teachers and practitioners alike. For those new to the studio, an introductory pass of three sessions is available, offering an accessible way to explore what the space has to offer before committing to a longer practice. Whether someone arrives on Koh Phangan for a short stay or is based on the island longer term, Sati Yoga provides a consistent, grounded space to develop a mindful practice rooted in authentic yoga tradition.

GoogleI really enjoyed this yoga class. It was a hatha yoga class, so no vinyasa flow and less dynamic than is most “western” yoga studios. Leo (the teacher) included a lot of meditation and breathwork which allowed me to get into a very meditative state. The place is surrounded by trees but it has mosquito nets so mosquitos were not a problem and you could still enjoy being surrounded by nature
This studio is the best places in Thailand to practice Contact Improvisation. The space is well held, the atmosphere is open and respectful, and the quality of practice is consistently high. It attracts experienced movers as well as newcomers, which creates a grounded and inspiring environment.
Sure! Here's the English translation of your review: This beautiful and cozy yoga space has become a true sanctuary of peace for me. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with attentive and professional instructors who create a space of trust and inner exploration. The studio is located right in the heart of Srithanu, surrounded by nature — practicing to the sounds of birds and cicadas feels absolutely magical. Each session here nourishes not only the body, but also the soul.
Great spacious yoga place, with lots of palm trees around and away from the main road. Leon, the owner, was very helpful. Totally recommend!
Wow! The classes are fantastic and very different from what is usually taught on the island. The teachers really take their time and create an immersive experience, offer less known asanas to work with, and really focus on helping participants find grounding and clear their mind, be fully present. Both Leon’s and Kate’s classes are amazing! The shala is also spectacular, nested in nature, huge windows, so serene.. would definitely recommend!
