Stillness Through Movement’ consists of supported poses, breath awareness exercise, meditation (training the mind in openness and kindness) and vibrational medicine. The technique helps restore the body/Mind connection. Stillness through movement is a process where one learns to align with ones true nature consciousness/intelligence.Through Breath and Mind Awareness one is able to let go deeply allowing themselves to receive the benefits of the restorative pose, bringing the body/mind back to its natural state of peace and contentment.Without this awareness one lives in a permanent state of unease,so when you practice in this way we begin to align with the ease of life.

With the use of aromatherapy and flower essences, one can relax and let go with more ease. The parasympathetic nervous system is activated during restorative yoga. The PNS is responsible for balancing the body and bringing its response system back into equilibrium. Restorative Yoga takes the spine and nervous system out of the “Flight, Fight OR freeze’ response, relaxing and calming the adrenals.

To do this props are used to support the body so no strain occurs, yet you can hold any posture anywhere from 2mins up to 20mins. It is sometimes referred to as “active relaxation” says Judith Lasater.

In doing this we are alternately stimulating the body to relax and move toward balance.

Some poses target a certain area where others have an overall benefit. All create specific physiological responses which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress related disease. So in general restorative practice is great for those times when one feels weak, fatigued, or stressed from day to day activities or for those who find other styles of yoga too difficult.

These poses are especially beneficial for those times before, during and after major life transitions like; death of a loved one, change of Job, Pregnancy, marriage, new baby, children leaving home, divorce or adrenal burnout. You can also practice the poses when ill or recovering from an illness or injury.

Great for re-balancing hormones in women who have Pms, puberty, menstruating and menopause, and for men with hormone imbalance as well.

What’s so exceptional about restorative yoga is it doesn’t matter whether you have never experienced yoga before or have been practicing for 30 years. This yoga can guide you to where you need to go!

Restorative yoga is ideal for men and women to help balance mental, emotional and physical well being.

Personally I found this practice to be the tool of this modern society, where stress unfortunately is a daily part of people’s lives. I have had major events that had happened in my own life and without this practice I would have been lost.
