GoogleI recently attended a class with Julian Walker at Santa Monica Yoga, and it was one of the most nourishing and intelligent yoga experiences I’ve had in a long time. I’ve trained with very high-level teachers, including intensive styles that emphasize pushing through, forcing release, and “breaking” patterns. While that approach can build strength, it can also leave the nervous system tight and overdriven. In a single class with Julian, I experienced something very different — and deeply impactful: a sense of softness, safety, and embodied presence. My body relaxed into the poses rather than being pushed into them. Even familiar shapes like Down Dog felt natural, pleasurable, and alive — guided by breath and internal awareness rather than effort. What stood out most was the quality of attunement. I felt clearly seen, gently guided, and held within respectful boundaries. Corrections were precise, calm, and caring. There was encouragement without pressure, structure without force, and a palpable sense of containment in the room. This class felt less like “just a yoga class” and more like a high-level somatic and nervous-system-informed experience — offered in a group setting with warmth and clarity. I also want to note that the entire Santa Monica Yoga environment felt welcoming and regulating, including the front desk staff. From the moment I arrived, I felt received and supported exactly as I was. It’s easy to see why people come here for years. This is yoga as a relational and healing art — a living field that supports both body and being. Highly recommend.
This little yoga oasis has been so great. The variety of classes/ instructors is a welcome surprise after being away from my practice for over a year. It has been a flexible way of easing back in to it. I will also recommend the live stream.
This down-to-earth and welcoming studio offers dynamic classes for all levels, plus wonderful evening and weekend events: candlelight yoga with essential oils, soundbath, and more. The instructors are deeply knowledgeable, warm, and accessible. Strong community vibe cultivated by wonderful owners.
I have not practiced my yoga in a very long time. Today I attended a low-key gentle stretch class that was just what I needed. Our teacher was lovely and kindly instructed. I will be back! Thank you Santa Monica Yoga
I highly recommend Santa Monica Yoga: the community is welcoming and the teachers are very professional. I have enjoyed the classes of Julian Walker and Daniel Gould over the past few years. I attend classes 1 - 3 times a week when I'm in town.
