I had a stress fracture in my knee from overexertion last year, along with some arthritis. I was undergoing physical therapy as well as getting injections for it, but it was healing slowly. My whole leg felt heavy. I had said that if my leg improved to 85% of what it used to be, I would be happy. After five acupuncture treatments, my leg is now at 95% of its pre-injury condition, better than I thought possible. Additionally, from the Chinese herbs he provides, I have more energy than I’ve had over the past few years. What more could I want? Dr. Trahan is very knowledgeable about alternative medicine, and I feel his sincere concern for my condition.

I have been a patient of Dr. Trahan's for more than a decade. He has earned my loyalty by being smart, compassionate, and thorough about my treatment, whether using acupuncture, herbal medicine or homeopathic remedies. I was first referred to Dr. Trahan by an osteopathic physician I was seeing for a condition that had been diagnosed as "allergic arthritis" and, over the years, Dr. Trahan has treated me for gout, skin conditions, back and neck pain, allergies and more. At first, I needed a little bit of time to get used to the different rhythms and expectations associated with acupuncture and alternative treatments, but the results spoke, and continue to speak, for themselves. It is important to recognize that Dr. Trahan runs his own office; he does not have an office manager. This means he has to do the scheduling and "talk money" with his patients in ways that doctors who work in medical offices do not. In this regard, I have always found him to be straightforward, polite, understanding and--when it comes to appointments--very, very flexible. If you are interested in trying acupuncture, herbal medicine and/or homeopathy for a specific condition, or for your general health, I can't recommend Dr. Trahan highly enough.

I was diagnosed with polycystic disease in the spring of 2007, having been symptomatic for approximately two years before that. From 2010 until I had my transplant in 2013, dialysis kept me alive, but I still experienced ongoing problems, specifically constant fatigue, poor sleep (not long or deep enough), digestive problems, faulty balance, and a constant feeling of being cold. At night, my feet would get so cold, even with socks, that it interrupted my sleep. My doctors could find no medical explanation for my cold feet, so I figured that modern medicine was doing all it could do with me and it was time to try ancient medicine. I’d had some success with meditation and tai chi, and thought to try acupuncture. I first came to Dr. Christopher Trahan on January 24, 2012. That day, he took a detailed history of my symptoms and sensations, and got to the root of my cold-feet problem in that first session. My feet have not been cold since. From there, he treated me with acupuncture for energy, balance, and digestion, all kidney-related problems which steadily improved, and over time he began to target my body points that correspond to the kidneys themselves. My kidneys press on my bladder, causing it to leak, and Dr. Trahan’s method eased the pressure considerably. I felt taller and stronger after my sessions, and this feeling tended to last the week. Amazingly, on my best days, I felt close to the way I felt before my illness--and close to how I feel with my new kidney. A first-class listener, Dr. Trahan follows up on symptoms and results at each session, and fine-tunes treatment according to any improvements or setbacks. He is well-versed in a wide range of healing arts and sciences, including herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutrition counseling, and massage, and makes suggestions from across this palette. (He prescribed homeopathic remedies for my allergies and insomnia, and both were effective.) As a physically nervous person, I found his warm, low-key manner welcome and comforting. As a transplant recipient, I am not allowed any complementary therapies, but if I were, I'd drop in often to see Dr. Trahan for an energy booster. I wish more doctors in traditional medicine were more like him.

Dr Trahan came highly recommended to me from a close friend who was experiencing skin issues. I could visibly see her own results after a few acupuncture sessions. She was also being treated with herbal medicine. I initially came to Dr Trahan to treat a chronic, non itchy rash that began out of the blue since I've moved to New York City. It would come and go with temperature swings, the pressure of an extra heavy bag, or for no particular reason. I first went to see a dermatologist and an allergist; both told me the only preventative measure they could offer was to take Zyrtec twice a day, everyday, until the symptoms dissipated. This had the opposite effect: my symptoms worsened and new ones began. I have been receiving acupuncture from Dr Trahan for several months, initially twice a week, and now once a week, and my symptoms have almost completely disappeared. He also specially mixes up herbs that have helped my skin and my general health. He also treats me with homeopathic remedies, and helps me with dietary adjustments according to my symptoms, my constitution, and seasonal changes. His gentle acupuncture treatments leave me revitalized after every session. He is a warm, accommodating and knowledgable holistic healer. I have a schedule that shifts from week to week and he has always been able to fit me in. It's a part of my week that I greatly look forward towards.
