Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery & Vipassana Retreat Centre

About

Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery & Vipassana Retreat Centre is a serene sanctuary nestled in the lush natural landscape of Tullera, New South Wales. Set along the peaceful surroundings of Bentley Road, this unique destination blends the contemplative traditions of a monastery with the restorative practices of a dedicated retreat centre, offering visitors a truly immersive wellness experience.

The centre draws on the ancient teachings of Vipassana meditation, one of the world's oldest and most respected mindfulness practices. Guests are guided through structured programs designed to cultivate deep inner awareness, clarity, and lasting peace of mind. Whether someone is a seasoned practitioner or approaching meditation for the very first time, the environment here is crafted to support meaningful personal growth at every level.

As both a place of worship and a health-focused retreat space, Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery holds a rare dual purpose that sets it apart within the wellness community. The forested surroundings of the Northern Rivers region add a natural dimension to the practice, encouraging a genuine connection with the environment as part of the healing journey.

With a welcoming atmosphere rooted in compassion and mindful living, Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery & Vipassana Retreat Centre continues to offer a valuable refuge for those seeking stillness, spiritual nourishment, and a deeper understanding of themselves. It remains a cherished destination for the broader wellness and contemplative community across Australia and beyond.

The location is lovely. Pannya the head monk is wise with decades of experience in many countries, particularly from Myanmar. His Buddhist teachings are easily digestible and the practice solidifies the teachings. The negative reviews I read here are mostly coming from people who want to take the Bodhi Tree over and are trying to push Pannya out! Come see this place for yourself. Monthly meetings on the last Saturday of the month, as at July 2025.

Bodhi Tree Monastery is a beautiful place offering Refuge and Retreat for those inclined towards wisdom and peace. Venerable Pannyavaro, the abbot has extensive experience in Mindfulness and Insight Meditation. His caring nature is felt both in his presence and in care of the forest - flora and fauna of Bodhi Tree Monastery. This place is a sanctuary and great offering to the community.

We have been visiting Bodhi Tree Monastery for several years . We have attended workshops and undertaken several mindfulness retreats. We have come to know Phra Pannyavaro for several years . Bodhi Tree Monastery is firmly based in the Theravada tradition and the teaching and practice is of a very high standard . We have visited many Buddhist monasteries in Australia and this place is a very special, sacred place and Pannya is a committed , faithful , vinaya observant Buddhist monk .Bodhi Tree Monastery is highly recommended and fully supported by the local Buddhist community. It is also a haven for people wishing to learn more about Buddhism and mindfulness practice . We are very privileged to have Bodhitree monastery and Pannya in our lives and practice . Noting other comments - please be respectful that Bodhi Tree Monastery is the home of Buddhist monks and all visitors should call first prior to visiting and not breach the peace and safety of this place .
