Akasha Yoga Academy

About

Akasha Yoga Academy is a Yoga Alliance certified school offering both in-person training in Bali, Indonesia, and a comprehensive suite of online programs for students around the world. Founded and directed by Burkhard, who brings over 20 years of full-time research and practice to his teaching, the school has earned a strong international reputation for presenting authentic, breath-based Yoga in a way that is both deeply rooted in tradition and genuinely accessible.

The academy's approach is grounded in the lineage of Krishnamacharya, and Burkhard's own formation spans more than 4,000 hours of committed study across Ashtanga Vinyasa, Hatha and Kundalini Yoga, Pranayama, Ayurveda, the Yoga Sutras, Sanskrit, and Mindfulness Meditation. He has studied under respected teachers including A.G. and Indra Mohan, BNS Iyengar, and Christopher Wallis, and has accumulated over 5,000 hours of teaching experience. He is supported by a dedicated team of teachers — Kirsten, Devdas, Astrid, and Arlene — who collectively create an environment that students consistently describe as warm, heart-centred, and transformative.

The course offerings are extensive. In-person and online 200-hour and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings form the core of the curriculum, alongside specialist 80-hour certifications in Yin Yoga, Meditation, and Advanced Hatha and Pranayama. A dedicated program exploring Yoga, Ayurveda, and feminine embodiment practices is also available, reflecting the school's commitment to holistic wellbeing. All teacher training programs are certified by Yoga Alliance, allowing graduates to teach professionally upon completion.

What distinguishes Akasha from many other training schools is its philosophical focus. Rather than emphasising alignment terminology or physical technique alone, the school places breath, self-inquiry, and genuine connection at the centre of every program. The intention is for students to leave not only qualified to teach, but meaningfully changed — with a deeper understanding of themselves and a sustainable personal practice. Set against the natural backdrop of Bali, and with a strong online community extending its reach globally, Akasha Yoga Academy draws students from across Europe, North America, and beyond who are seeking rigorous, authentic Yoga education taught by teachers who genuinely embody what they share.
