Are you tense, stressed or just worn out? Is your body so stiff and painful that it feels like a cage? Want to do meditation but find it hard to sit quietly alone for a long time? Like the idea of acupuncture but don’t like the needles? – Then Yin Yoga might be for you!
In this class, you’ll learn how to incorporate meditation and mindfulness into the physical practice of yin yoga – aiming to enhance your life force (chi) through breath awareness and gently releasing your joints by holding posture over time (3-5 minutes). Yin Yoga will help you mindfully reduce your stress in your body, generate inner vitality and slow the aging process by gently stretching your connective tissues, muscles and joints, keeping them supple. At the same time they will deeply relax you and settle your body and mind.
This is a quiet and meditative yin practice rather than yang (active and vigorous). Yin yoga aims to stimulate the flow of chi along our meridians – the pathways located along our connective tissues, a technique used by acupuncture – yet without using needles!
I have practiced Yin Yoga for many years, which has provided relief from chronic shoulder pain. I also had the blessing of training with the Yin Yoga founders Paul and Suzee Grilley, and Sara Powers.
Now I would love to practice yin yoga with you in this peaceful community school in Ultimo. Join us for a relaxing practice on Sunday afternoon!
