Do any of the following sound like you?

  • You feel a burning need to make a difference, to share your love of yoga. Yoga has made such a great impact on your life, you’re bursting to share it with others.
  • You know you want to make the shift to a fulfilling career as a yoga teacher. You want to learn to teach authentic yoga.
  • You feel the need to deepen your practice but you are not sure you want to be a teacher.
  • You’ve already completed other teacher training but you’d like to study yoga and receive more mentoring.

If any of the above applies Tamara Yoga Teacher Training might be perfect for you.

In our teacher training program, trainees are required to attend regular Tamara Yoga classes as part of the course. This intense practice in yogic techniques of asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation while teacher training, deepens your own practice, accelerates your development and facilitates your ability to transmit yoga. You will learn keys to happiness.

Once you’re sure Yoga Teacher Training is right for you and you’re ready to take your practice to the next level… we’ll teach you how to make your dream reality.

We know that being a professional yoga teacher is to live an inspired and inspiring life. Being a yoga teacher means to live a life consistent with your values. Becoming a yoga teacher means you contribute to peace and happiness in the world and going to work will never seem like ‘work’ again.

Which teacher training path is right for you?

The Tamara Yoga Teacher Training Level 1 programme is offered in two forms so you can choose the timing that works best for you. Choose between:

These programmes are equivalent to each other

  • The 2- year Teacher Training in Claremont, Perth, includes teacher training lectures on fortnightly Thursday afternoons and scheduled Saturday workshops during school terms. Our study breaks and holidays coincide with public school holidays so this programme suits parents of children and those who can arrange time during the week for teacher training classes.
  • Tamara Yoga intensive residential teacher trainings are held in Bali. Two intensives equals Level 1 teacher training. The intensive programme is suited to people who can take 13 days at a time to fully immerse in study. Our intensive trainings also especially suit those who live out of the Perth metro area. We’ve had students travel from Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Karratha and other country areas to attend our intensive yoga teacher training programmes.

Each of these courses are registered as 350 hour/ Level 1 courses with Yoga Australia. The comprehensive Tamara Yoga Teacher Training courses are of the highest standard. Upon successful completion, graduates will be certified Tamara Yoga teachers and are eligible for registration with Yoga Australia and internationally with Yoga Alliance.

Tamara Yoga Teacher Training Postgraduate Course

Additional to our Level 1 programmes, we offer a postgraduate course for registered teachers. If you have successfully completed 350 hours of teacher training and are registered with Yoga Australia at Level 1 or 2 and wish to deepen your knowledge and continue to develop as a professional yoga teacher our post graduate program might be just what you’re looking for.

The practice of yoga spreads peace in the world and directly benefits the community you live in. We are so happy to be able to facilitate this in your life.

Teacher Training Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I love yoga and would really like to learn more, but I don’t want to be a yoga teacher or change my current job. Can I still attend your teacher training even if I don’t want to be a yoga teacher?

A: Absolutely. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the teachings of yoga. There will be time for self-reflection, deepening your own practice and learning more about the philosophy of yoga. You will learn skills that will enhance your current career. Several students each intake join the TYTT not sure they want to teach, they just feel compelled to learn more about yoga. They feel committed to yoga practice and they want to go deeper, consistently, in a supportive environment. At Tamara Yoga we provide that nurturing, encouraging experience. Previous students that have undertaken Tamara Yoga Teacher Training because they have felt the need to deepen their practice, not wanting to teach, have found the skills learned and knowledge gained have improved their life on all levels including enhanced career performance and higher levels of inner happiness. As teacher trainee, naturopath Margaret Light said: “I would say definitely do the training – even if you don’t want to teach. You will learn so much wonderful information and your inner self will be so enriched by this experience.”

Q: I’m not sure if I want to be a yoga teacher, whether I’ll be good enough?

A: That’s one of the great benefits of the Teacher Training being in stages. Whether one year at a time or one module at a time you get to ‘try’ it out without having to fully commit in advance to the complete training. Also the structure of the courses will give you time to develop as a teacher. And, do take comfort; the best teachers didn’t start as inspiring as they are now. They too had to start at the beginning.

Q: I love yoga and would so love to teach it, but my own yoga practice isn’t really that great. I feel like there is so much more I need to learn before I can be a teacher.

A: That’s actually a wonderful sentiment. The best teachers know there is always more to learn. Keep in mind that there are many possible students, of all ages, shapes and abilities, so who you become as a teacher will be just right for the right students. We don’t believe students want cookie-cutter teachers or in a one size fits all approach. An important part of the ethos at Tamara Yoga is learning how to personalize the teaching for each student. Something else you might like to know – your own practice is very likely to develop exponentially over the period of your training. That is what we’ve seen again and again with previous teacher trainees.

Q: With your intensive modules, why is the 200 hour training in 2 parts, unlike some other trainings that have the 200 hours in one course, and the 350hr training in 3 parts? I like the idea of getting it all done at once.

A: Understandably, lots of us like getting things ‘done’ and ‘over and done with’. The thing is, teaching yoga is an ongoing learning process and the more we learn the more we realize there is to learn…A lot of students/new teachers have come to Tamara Yoga after completing a 200 hour course elsewhere and told us once they started teaching classes they realized they were underprepared to actually teach real people in regular classes. And that doing a whole 200 hours at once left them overwhelmed by information. They have also realized after the fact that to actually teach yoga well, that studying is a life-long process. These new teachers have asked us to help them.

At Tamara Yoga, for years, we have been training successful teachers that students love, so we understand it takes practice to develop confidence, and that practice takes time. We understand that trainees’ questions develop as they progress in their teaching and therefore real ongoing mentorship is important. And that takes time too.

For several years, Tamara Yoga Teacher Training has been conducted over two years during the week and on weekends. We understand that while this is an ideal way to learn, such a timetable is not viable for many full-time workers and people living in the country. We recognized the need to complement our 2-year TYTT programme with intensive residential trainings.

We knew there had to be a better way than squeezing the whole training into one course, so we have placed our training in modules with ample time between for processing the teachings, and time to complete assignments for the love of it- not because there’s a big rush just to hand something in.

Important for you to know – Yoga Australia, the national registry of Yoga Teachers – does NOT recognize short courses held in 1 month as being sufficient to meet the minimum standards to register as a Yoga Teacher. The Tamara Yoga Teacher Training complete intensive programme DOES meet the standards required by Yoga Australia.

Q: What if I want to do the 200-hour training course but I’m not sure yet whether I’ll be able to be at the Margaret River module in October? Do I have to do the next one by then?

A: The TYTT 200 course offers great flexibility. You can attend the next module another time that module is offered, or possibly join into another Tamara Yoga Teacher Training.

Importantly, provided you successfully pass all the requirements of that module you will receive a recognised Tamara Yoga certificate of attendance from the course you attended.

Q: I have completed other trainings but I don’t feel prepared to teach, and I’ve heard really good things about Tamara Yoga Teacher Training, so I would like to do yours. However, I don’t want to ‘repeat’ what I’ve already learned.

A: Yoga is a vast ocean of knowledge so there is so much to learn…the chances are it won’t be repetitive. We don’t want to comment on other trainings – what we can tell you though is what other students that have done other trainings and then studied at Tamara Yoga have said: “I had already completed a 12 month long teacher training course and had been teaching yoga for 1 year when I went to my first class at Tamara Yoga. I enjoyed the class so much, I immediately thought ‘that’s the way I want to teach yoga’. I had concerns that doing teacher training again would involve lots of repetition of what I had already learnt. I realise now that teaching yoga is an ongoing learning experience that extends for as long as you teach. Some subject names may have been the same as my previous teacher training, but my experience of learning those subjects in the context of Tamara’s Teacher Training was much deeper and really enlightening. Apart from the quality of the course, I think what makes the difference is that Tamara holds her teacher trainees in her heart, with an ongoing connection as a mentor – as an authentic yoga teacher would. Years have passed and I now assist Tamara on teacher training courses – she has taught me to practice the same ‘connection’ with everyone I teach.”___Julie Dulaney, previous trainee and now successful teacher.

If you’ve already completed a teacher training programme but you’re still drawn to this one, we welcome you to apply.
