Two courses for the price of one:  Do all of both, or as many sessions as you choose – it’s your holiday.

 Effort and surrender: a balance in body and mind

Taking the physical and psychological benefits of yoga, meditation and mindfulness to a deeper lever, this week explores the insights of all these practices for body and mind. During the yoga class, Sam will seek to cultivate your physical awareness, and find a balance between effort and surrender that can be translated into daily life.

Susan takes up the exploration in her classes on meditation and mindfulness. She will discuss the scientific basis for the benefits of both, and lead you into developing your own practice. In the same way as yoga is a practice – something pursued regularly - mindfulness and meditation are also practices. One does not “do” meditation, one practices it – and it grows with time. So too with mindfulness: it is a process and a habit for better living, with established benefits for physical as well as mental health.   

With a background and training in classical ballet and dance, and a life-long commitment to lifestyle and exercise, it was the postures that brought Sam to the mat.  Like many that pursue a career in teaching, it is the philosophy, the psychological benefits, as well as the physical awareness, that has encouraged Sam to share her learning.  Having practiced Yoga for over 20 years, Sam qualified as an Instructor with the IYTA, with an internationally recognized Diploma in Teaching in 2015, and has been teaching in gyms, independent yoga studios and offers both private and corporate practice.    She has completed Children’s Yoga training and also works with senior students.Sam believes that in Yoga we learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose - overall, it encourages us to learn balance and surrender in our everyday lives.

Afternoon: Trip to Savusavu Town to see local market and shops. We put you in cabs to get into town and then leave you to wander around at your own pace, and let you take a cab (Aus$3), or walk back, when you’ve had enough.
