Pyramid Yoga

About

Tucked into the lush jungle of Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, Pyramid Yoga Centre is a residential wellness community built around the serious study of yoga, healing, and conscious living. The centre's distinctive pyramid-roofed shalas sit beneath a canopy of towering trees, creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely removed from the noise of everyday life — a place where daily practice and real transformation are the primary focus.

At the heart of the centre is its founder, David Goulet, a yoga teacher with over 50 years of experience who trained at Ananda Ashram under three Indian masters, including Swami Gitananda and Dr. Ganapathy. From this lineage, David developed Chakra Yoga — a breath-centred, energy-based system that draws on the chakra framework to align body and mind. Pyramid Yoga's teaching encompasses nine forms of yoga, making it one of the more comprehensive yoga educations available in Southeast Asia, and one that is not easily found elsewhere.

The centre operates as a residential school, offering immersive yoga teacher training programs at the 200-hour and 500-hour levels, alongside drop-in classes, workshops, and a wide range of wellness treatments. These include sound healing sessions held in the centre's dedicated Sound Dome, reflexology, chakra alignment therapy, bodywork and massage, cacao ceremonies, and private wellness coaching. An all-vegan conscious kitchen supports guests with daily plant-based meals, fresh kombucha, and fermented foods, reinforcing the centre's holistic approach to well-being.

Community life at Pyramid Yoga extends well beyond the shala. A weekly ecstatic dance gathering draws both residents and visitors, reflecting the centre's broader belief that joy, movement, and connection are inseparable from spiritual practice. The residential model encourages deep bonds between students, teachers, and long-term community members, giving the place a warmth that keeps people returning. Whether someone arrives for a single class or stays for a full teacher training program, Pyramid Yoga's combination of ancient teaching, jungle setting, and genuine community offers something meaningfully different from a standard retreat or studio experience.

Doing the Yoga Teacher Training with Dave is been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! Since the beginning I was welcome as part of a family: they accommodated me with the transport and a very beautiful cottage in the middle of a tropical dream forest. Everyone is super nice and the shalas (pyramids) are incredible! David is an amazing teacher and human being: he welcomes everyone as we are and that creates a beautiful athmosphere among the studients (who each one of us is very special in our own and unique way). Each class feels like a rainbow 🌈 as he supports us to be that way. There is always fun and joy and a lot of depth in his teachings! I recommend doing studies with him to anyone that has already done a 200hrs or has a few years of asana practice to make the most of what he has to share which is a lot! Special thanx to Ely & his family and Cassandra🫶🏻🩵

A gorgeous relaxing spot away from the hubbub of the island. The self-contained bungalows are simple but offer excellent quality for the price. Embrace the wellness and holistic practices, especially the yoga and ecstatic dance which are included in the room price. Be prepared for a tricky driveway up and down on the scooter, not for first timers.

The best ecstatic dance I’ve ever been to! The people are amazing and really create a warm, open atmosphere. The music is diverse and takes you on a real journey. Everyone respects the rules, which makes the space feel safe and free. The vibe is unreal, so well thought out and full of energy. I loved every moment and can’t wait to come back!

What is there not to love about this place? The bungalows offer you a comfortable bed, high ceilings with a lot of natural light coming from the skylights, a front porch screened in to keep the insects out, and ours came with a kitchenette perfect for a longer stay, where we stored fresh fruits and vegetables to eat for breakfast. The way that the bungalows are built and the location underneath the tree canopy allows for light to sink through, but not enough to heat up the accommodation. We only felt our place heat up once where we had to turn on the fan, which then provided a strong breeze to cool us right down again. I could write a novel about the property, and then still have room left over to talk about the workshops and offerings. Ecstatic dance on Sunday is medicine for the soul and the body. Yoga every morning to get your day started right. And plenty more to learn about and explore. I will be telling people about this place because of how much it impacted my stay here on Koh Phangan. Thank you to all of the staff for being hospitable and friendly.

The Sunday Ecstatic Dance was truly transformative. It shifted the way I think about dance, music, community, and—dare I say—spirituality. Not every song was profound, but enough of them were to make the journey absolutely worthwhile and open me up to something new. Sure, it has a “hippie” vibe on the surface, but beneath that is a raw, genuine truth. I witnessed some truly incredible dance moves, browsed some beautiful handmade products, and joined a powerful sing-along and chant/guided meditation that felt like a kind of church I’ve never experienced before. If you’re open to it, this space offers something beyond just music—it’s a shared experience that can really touch you.
