About

Avati teaches at Lotus Yoga Aldinga Beach.

I am an accredited and affiliated yoga teacher with a Diploma of Satyananda Yoga teaching/training’. Since 2005 I have offered small classes, taught from Lotus Yoga, a beautiful studio in my home set between Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park and the beautiful Aldinga Bay beach. I teaches a holistic style of yoga based on traditional practices and informed by the latest scientific knowledge. This supports vibrant health at every level: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

The classes are general ones and accommodate young and older students; those in full bloom of health wanting to increase strength and flexibility, pregnant students, those needing restoration and support in recovering from serious conditions and surgery.
Each class includes asana (physical practices), pranayama (breath work), meditation and deep relaxation. There is support to develop meditation skills that can transform lives at every level.

Each student is respected at whatever level they are in health, strength and flexibility, I help each to recognise limitations and to work gently and appropriately to extend themselves.

Over the last 40 years I have trained intensively as a body worker [biodynamic, psychoperistaltic and metamorphic massage] a Psychosynthesis educator, a Counsellor and finally 8 years of training in Tibetan Pulsing Healing. I have over 30 years of wide experience teaching and leading groups as masseuse, bodyworker, counsellor, librarian, outdoor education teacher, teacher of bush skills, bushwalking and yoga and meditation.

I spent 10 years in India and 2 years in Costa Rica in Ashrams dedicated to Meditation and Healing Arts. When I returned to Australia I reconnected with Satyananda Yoga and soon began a formal study of yoga with Satyananda Yoga Academy. I began teaching in 2005 and completed the Diploma of Teacher Training in 2007.

I began practising yoga in 1960; in the early 1980’s found Satyananda Yoga and was drawn by the power, breadth and depth of its approach. In recent years I have used intensive yoga asana and pranayama to regain vitality, flexibility and strength, and meditation to face inner crises. The primary focus in my life is a Zen meditation practice and yoga.
