Encounter Yoga
About
I began practicing yoga in the early 80’s, and after having a family and working full time and studying, I found that life got busy and I just drifted away from yoga for quite some time. But yoga kept beckoning me, and so I returned, with a more whole hearted commitment when the time was right - (and wondered why I ever stopped practicing!).
This was more than 15 years ago - and yoga has become my lifestyle - a way of being, seeing and moving in the world. Yoga has been a gift and blessing, as I realise the immense benefits of its practices, on every level - particularly in times of life's big challenges, such as grief and loss.
As I enjoyed the benefits of yoga so much, I wanted to learn more, so in 2009/10 I studied with Venkatesa Integral Yoga Academy of Australasia, obtaining a Full Sadhana Yoga Teaching Diploma (500 hours), and began sharing yoga with others in 2011 - and haven't looked back! And I am now a registered Yoga Australia Level 2 (500 hours) teacher training.
In 2016, I qualified as a Thai Yoga Massage therapist. TYM is a beautiful practice that's also a wonderful complement to yoga and one that I love sharing with metta (loving kindness); making this a calming, nourishing and meditative experience - for both the giver and receiver, with enormous health and wellness benefits.
More recently I completed the Bliss Baby Yoga pre-natal yoga teacher training - enabling me to share yoga with mums-to-be during such a very special and nurturing time of pregnancy - making yoga more accessible and safe for those who benefit most from it.
As a yoga teacher I continue to evolve and grow. That is simply the nature of yoga - you never stop learning; evolving and transforming - exploring and experiencing a range of yoga practices, styles and teachings that inspire the classes I share with others.
I believe in tailoring classes to meet the needs of groups or individuals, making classes fun, unique and student centred.
There have been some wonderful opportunities open up for me to share yoga with many different groups, in many different settings - Women's and Young Mum's groups, Caregivers, school students and their teachers, youth programs, health care professionals, families and corporate groups - in parks, on beaches, in private homes, workplaces and community halls. I have treasured every step of the way, every experience, and every person I have come into contact with on this very special journey.
Encounter Yoga is now based in a small, boutique studio within my own home - catering for intimate groups of up to 8 people.
I look forward to sharing yoga with you soon,
Namaste!
