Introduction

"YOGA VIDHYA (KNOWLEDGE) IS A SCIENCE AND ASANA IS ONE OF ITS VERY IMPORTANT APPLICATION"

Based on this yogic principle, this unique course focuses on the first sheath of panchkosha system - Annamaya kosha and the third limb of Yoga – Asana (after Yama & Niyama) from the eight limb Ashtanga system as explained by Sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutra Book. 

​This course is your first step towards learning important techniques & knowledge of yoga asana practice. This is also where you begin your journey not just simply an attendee of a yoga class but a lifelong learner of this age-less & time-less practice of Yoga.

This is primarily a skill based course in which you will be able to have the demonstrated ability of the following yoga techniques. There are four modules in this course:

Course Content:

Module 1 Sukhshma Vyayama (Micro Exercises)

This section of the course focuses on our key body joints. It is one of the most important groups of practices that has a very profound effect on the human body and mind and is thus a most useful tool for the yogic management of various disorders and maintenance of health.  The course content is divided in two parts:

A-Theory:

i. Knowledge of anatomy of our key joints: 

  • Toes
  • Ankles
  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Trunk
  • Fingers
  • Wrists
  • Elbows
  • Shoulders
  • Neck

ii. Technique, training & practice of each joints exercise

B- Skills (practice)

i. Learning to practice a complete yogic sequence to maintain a good health of our joints.

Module 2  Surya Namaskar (SN) 

2.1 Suryanamaskara (Sun Salutation posture sequence)

 a. Demonstrated ability to perform classical hatha yoga SN & Ashtanga SN 

Module 3 Yogasana 

3.1 Demonstrated understanding & ability to perform 15 key Hatha yoga postures as below:

  • Padangushthanasana (standing forward bend)
  • Trikonasana (Triangle)
  • Parivrttti Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle)
  • Virbhadrasna (Warrior) 
  • Vrkshasana (tree)
  • Paschimottanasana (sitting forward bend)
  • Vajrasana (thunderbolt)
  • Ardha Supta Vajrasana (half-sleeping)
  • Ushtrasana (camel)
  • Bhujangasana (cobra)
  • Salabhasana (locust)
  • Dhanurasana (bow)
  • Ardh Supta Eka Pada Padangushthana (half sleeping one leg raised)
  • Supta Udarkrishasana (abdominal twist)
  • Shavasana (corpse)

 3.2 Demonstrated understanding & ability to perform Integral Yoga Asana Sequence from the  standing, seated, backbend, and supine categories.

Schedule / Itinerary

Prerequisite:

This course is open to all whether you are a complete beginner or have been practising for some time and now would like to learn the fundamentals of Asana so that you can continue to practice on your own. This course is registered with Yoga Alliance as Continuing Education Course. If you are yoga teacher, you can claim this as your continuing education credits or further count as your teacher training.

 This course equips you with the necessary tools that you need in order to make a difference in your everyday life. You will have in depth focus of yoga asana practice.

Mode of Delivery
You can choose from two modes:
1. part-time: one day/week for 10 weeks, 3-4 hrs/day plus self -study time 

2. full-time:  4 days/week for two weeks, 3-4 hrs/day plus self -study time
