Description

There a sweet and soulful bliss that goes hand in hand with the practice of flow based yogic practices, one of the most popular forms of practice in the west – powerful, sweaty and when done well, deeply connecting in the way that true yoga offers.

However, for such a nectarous experience, Vinyasa has the potential to sting like a bee. Misalignment of body and breath, speed of execution and the sometimes misplaced intention of the practitioner can contribute to a pernicious and injurious outcome.

Too often the Vinyasa practice is a playground for a teacher’s creative expression without much focus on the alignment and safe linking of the poses. The practice becomes more about giving a cool and challenging class than making sure students are, first and foremost, steady and at ease in their bodies. Add to that the fact that many practitioners come to such a practice from varied backgrounds without ever having attended a beginners or foundational course so increasing the scope for extensive damage to wrists, elbows and shoulders.

Join senior teacher Yolande Hyde for a workshop aimed at demystifying the shape of Chaturanga Dandasana, the engine of the Vinyasa flow cycle. Understanding how to get into it, how to be in it with serenity and how to move out of it with ease and grace. Looking at variations and modifications for injury support as well as strengthening poses you can add to your practice to assist you in improving this challenging pose, particularly when its taught in a fast moving flow sequence.

The workshop will explore the pose in a theoretical as well as practical context aiming to demystify and connect the student with what is required for stability in the body and ultimately a resuscitation of the joy of confident and clean continuous flow.

This workshop is suited to all students  from beginners to advanced including those with injury and instability.
