Description

Many yogis celebrate the change in Seasons by practicing 108 Sun Salutations on each of the Solstices and Equinoxes. We hope that you’ll join us this Winter Solstice to celebrate season change and acknowledge the ever-changing world around us.

Together we will practice 108 sun salutations as the sun sets, followed by a calming restorative yoga practice and yoga nidra (guided relaxation).

108 Sun Salutations might sound like a lot (okay, it is a lot). But there’s no reason to be nervous – we’ll begin with a really gentle variation, and you will have the opportunity to continue with that or move to progressively dynamic variations. You’ll feel amazing, though tired, by the time you finish.

The number 108 is considered both mystical and auspicious in many traditions. For example, there are 108 names for the Hindu god Shiva; there are 108 names for Buddha; there are 108 beads on a Catholic rosary; there are 108 beads on a Tibetan “mala” or prayer beads; there are 108 Sutras in the Yoga Sutras; and for a little math: 108 is twice the number 54, which is the number of sounds in the sacred Indian language of Sanskrit; and it is six times the number 18, which is a Jewish number for good luck. Additionally, each number has special significance: the number 1 means Higher Truth, 0 stand for Emptiness, and 8 represent Infinity.
