Apply your knowledge to deepen your own practice and to observe and instruct others safely. At the completion of this weekend you will be able to observe a yoga practice and skillfully analyse strengths, weaknesses and restrictions in the body as well as understand the benefits and cautions associated with the postures. A Certificate of Participation will be given on completion for Continuing Professional development points.
Friday 8th July 7 - 10pm
Anatomy and Physiology of the Musculoskeletal System: Refresh or learn for the first time the major muscles, muscle groups and their origins and attachments to the bones. Find out how muscles access energy for movement and their relationship with the nervous system and circulation. Learn the language of movement by practically describing the flexion/extension of joints and contraction/relaxation of associated muscles. Observe the range of movement in the joints and understand how their different structures impact on your yoga practice.
Saturday 9th July 12 - 6pm
Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga: A practical and theoretical session including the effect of yoga postures on the musculoskeletal system, the endocrine system (hormones), digestive system, nervous sytem, cardiovascular fitness and more. Common poses will be analysed in detail.
Sunday 10th July 12 - 5pm
Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga: A practical session to understand the application of anatomy and physiology to real bodies. Detailed examination of the knee joint, shoulder structure and function and other common injury sites. Learn to work with injuries, adapt poses and assess yourself and others using the language of anatomy.
