Here is a little more about Kiran and her course:
Kiran Joy Bocquet trained in dance since she was 5 years old, defining her direction towards the classical art forms of India for the past 30 years. Studying for almost one year with the late Shri k Pattabhi Jois, in Ashtanga yoga, it was here that she also embarked on a love affair with Indian dance. Initially studying Bharatnatyam until she returned to Australia and joined the Kala Bharti school of Indian dance, studying Indian folk dance and Odissi, sacred temple dance. Another year of training in India in the Gurukul tradition (living with Guru) awarded her with a scholarship from the ICCR (Indian council of cultural relations) and since then performance and practice have been a daily integral part of her life in these art forms.
Kiran also see the immense benefit of utilizing dance as a health modality and this is what this class will be about! Health and well being through Indian classical dance. So come and get moving!
This course will be based on a tradition that was taught to Kiran by a Keralan man and entails sequences of rhythmic foot patterns and hand movements, it is eclectic of many Indian dance styles. It will create strength and grace in the body, and is a feminine, fun way to cultivate fitness and exercise. All welcome!
This class will be accompanied by live tabla and ghungroos ( brass ankle bells) will be provided.
