The yoga retreat I enjoyed at Radiant Sun Yoga was a remarkable journey. Catherine takes the yoga experience well beyond the confines of the yoga mat to encompass the beach, the forest, the energy flows in nature, poetry and visualisation. There was also fine food, great hospitality and new friendships. I left there with an altered and more expansive appreciation of yoga and its power to transform.
The retreat was amazing, energising, uplifting and nourishing.
Thank you for an absolutely lovely weekend – it was an experience to treasure and reflect on for some time to come. And great to get in so much yoga in one weekend. I am still marvelling over the steam coming
off the sea on that Sunday morning! And the moon that evening when we were driving home! A lot to savour.
Thank you so much for the wonderful retreat. I have returned home feeling like a new person! Have been practising yoga now on a daily basis, a longer session in the morning and just a quick one before bed, and can't imagine not doing it now. It brings a quiet and focus to my day and an awareness of my physicallity - it grounds me and brings me into myself. It has also become a prayer of thanks at the end of the day for just being alive!

Location and venue
The retreat will be held at Broulee, a village on the south coast of NSW. Broulee is famous for its beautiful beaches and bushland. It is located in the Eurobodalla Shire – also known as “land of many waters” because of its many natural lakes, estuaries, rivers, creeks and marine waters. It is a perfect place to get back in touch with the earth, the sun, the ocean and the sky.
Only 160kms from Canberra and 280kms south of Sydney, Broulee is an easy drive for a weekend escape. For more information about Broulee and the Eurobodalla Shire see - www.eurobodalla.com.au
The venue for the retreat will be the beautiful Broulee Yoga Shed - http://www.walirryuna.com.au/yoga/broulee-yoga-shed-classes.html This is a purpose-built, light-filled garden studio, only a short stroll to the beach and creek. Activities will also be undertaken at the beach, waterways and in nearby bushland.
Accommodation for the retreat will be in beach houses at and nearby the Yoga Shed.
Who is the retreat suitable for?
The retreat is suitable for anyone with an interest in participating in yoga, unwinding and getting back in touch with nature. It’s for those who yearn to spend more time with the elements, walk on the sand, watch the sunrise over the ocean, be in the bush, swim in the sea. It’s for those who feel stressed out, who want to find some inner quiet and learn new ways to relax.
It’s particularly suitable for those who attend regular yoga classes but would like to have more time to explore more deeply what yoga is about, including the philosophy and esoteric teachings of yoga, and to engage more intensively in a range of yoga practices such as breath connection, chakra energising, dynamic and restorative postures, and guided meditations.
But you don’t have to have done yoga before - beginners are also welcome. We will be doing physical yoga practice and walking so you need an average level of health and physical capacity but you won’t be expected to do yoga gymnastics. I work on the philosophy that “if you can breathe you can do yoga”. Everyone works at their own level - it’s all about finding your own yoga that’s right for you.
About deep ecology and re-earthing
Deep ecology is a philosophy of nature that emphasises our connection to and interdependence with the living earth. The central spiritual tenet of deep ecology is that we are part of the earth and not separate from it. To deep ecology, we humans are one strand in a complex web of natural relationships. We are of the earth, made of the very stuff as the trees, the animals and the cosmos itself. This view aligns perfectly with the yogic view that we are one with all creation and the divine universe.
Re-earthing is a process in which we gradually identify more closely with the earth. It is a practice of self-realisation to help us gain a more nature-centred perspective. This is based on the idea that the more we expand the self to intuitively identify with ‘others’ - people, animals, ecosystems, elements - the more we realise our true selves and our oneness with all.
We may have intellectual understanding of our connectedness, but the spiritual, emotional and visceral experience of that sacred connection which we may have felt as children is too often socialised out of us by our culture. Arne Naess, who coined the term ‘deep ecology’ in the late 1960s, called for ‘community therapies’ to heal the rift that we feel between ourselves and nature.
The retreat will include various activities, rituals and practices in natural environments to facilitate an experiential reconnection to the earth, the elements and spirit.
Salute the sun, ground with the earth, breath with spirit, transform with fire, flow with the ocean, move with the moon, soar with the wind
