A series of workshops with discussion over a 4 month period.
The practices will explore the ways in which the many “tools” of yoga can be adapted to provide a new and different experience.
These practices will be multilayered/multidimensional encouraging an holistic experience.
MAY: PRACTICE AS DYNAMIC AND STATIC
Asana is the act of moving the physical body.
Moving the body through time and space, and allowing the body and mind to remain still in a given space, are two different aspects of a yoga practice. One builds the capacity for the other in a mutual way. Each encourages the other to embrace the qualities of Sthira (alertness and strength) and Sukham (ease and comfort) which are the foundation of a yoga practice.
JUNE: RIDING THE WAVE OF SOUND
When chant is incorporated into an asana practice, the body and mind begin to release into the flow of sound. Chant can be used to encourage a stimulating response or a calming one. This practice will explore the ways in which chant, used as the primary tool in an asana practice, can bring about a profound change.
JULY: BREATHING INTO CLARITY AND LIGHT
Pranayama is changing our unconscious pattern of breathing into a conscious one. The practice of Pranayama brings calmness and clarity to the mind and expands vital energy. This practice will explore how Pranayama can affect the body, mind and emotions and how asana can be a secondary tool towards a pranayama goal.
AUGUST : A PATH TO STILLNESS WITHIN
Meditation allows us to remain focused and attentive on a single point. This in turn begins to show us who and how we are a our deepest level. In this practice you will move through various layers, from movement of the body to the still space within.
