Course Content:
Foundational musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology; introductory functional anatomy and analysis of asana; cardiovascular anatomy and physiology; respiratory anatomy and physiology and analysis of breathing; nervous system.
Learning Objectives:At the end of the workshop/ course the participant will –
· Be familiar with basic components of MS System, Cardiovascular and
Respiratory systems
· Appreciate the interrelatedness of body systems
· Be able to identify and recognise posture differences and relevance to asana
· Be familiar with the language of anatomical movements in order to systematically consider and communicate analysis of asana
· Be able to identify musculoskeletal limitations to asana practise in terms of strength and flexibility
· Be aware of conditions for optimal functioning of the body
· Appreciate the function or the heart and passage of circulation
· From a physiological perspective understand contraindications for CV medical conditions
· Be familiar with the mechanics of breathing and apply this understanding to pranayama practice
· Be familiar with anatomy of peripheral and central nervous system
· Understand how a nerve functions – physiology and mechanics
· Have some understanding of healing and basic pain physiology
· Have some understanding of the stress response and recognise the role of relaxation and meditation in managing stress
