Practice is often understood as becoming stronger, working harder or longer. This is the will and the will is a demanding task master.
We are seekers that are why we are attracted to the practice. We must look, feel, question… not just bully.
We must grow in self-knowledge.
The pathway will mean that some days, years, our practice will become dry, our bodies will not respond, and sometimes all that we apply to this dilemma is the drug of pushing the ‘ticking the box’ hormone which lets us of the hook.
We have to ‘wake up”, or we are just box tickers, and not truly alive.
This is a pathway to freedom.
Prashant Iyengar said recently that only BKS can practice Iyengar yoga, he Prashant, will have to delve into the ocean of who he is and become that. His lake is not the same as his fathers.
It is what each of us must do.
BKS Iyengar called the yoga path the ‘journey inward’. The journey inward is counter-cultural. It requires discipline, love, time and solitude, patience and a perspective that will shine light. We have to become ourselves on our path, not someone else, and that really is what will challenge and strip us.
