About Esther

Esther van der Sande is a Clinical Somatic Psychotherapist, Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR) Clinician, and a qualified Yoga and Mindfulness teacher and practitioner. Esther is the co-founder of Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Australia and Sydney based member of the Trauma Centre, Boston Training Faculty. Esther has been working in the private and in the community sector for over ten years. She practices in Yoga, TCTSY, the neuroscience of trauma and healing and the pervasiveness of complex development trauma in today’s young adolescents and adults.

Esther has a particular interest in individuals who present with complex trauma, and psychosomatic complaints. Also, people with complex life stories, who may be experiencing some form of anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of their experiences.

What is a trauma informed yoga practice?

Esther will present on yoga practice as a supportive therapy for everyday mental health challenges or mood/psychosocial disorder. Esther will also outline how you can work with it the benefits and the ongoing support that is available through her clinic.

Esther will show how fostering accessibility through group classes or one on one is made easy for clients living with everyday life and the stress this can bring. Through the practise of yoga, the forms and movement can assist with mental health training and yoga as a clinical adjunctive therapy. Our experiences matter and need to be taken care of and one way is through the practise of yoga. A yoga practice is more than a series of movements that stretch the body. In a mental health context we develop tools to be used in everyday to manage our minds, feelings, and emotions.
