About the Retreat

How to bring harmony, awareness and joy into our lives through yoga practice, right nutrition and lifestyle!

Practice:

During this retreat we will explore how yoga asana, pranayama (breath work), ayurveda (holistic medicine), nutrition, meditation are connected to each other. We will learn how to apply these methods to our daily lives to bring more happiness and joy to a stress free lifestyle. By using these methods we take responsibility of our health and wellbeing and begin creating an integrated holistic approach to keep our body and mind in balance.

During the retreat we will go deeper into our practice with the help of pranayama (breath work). Ayurveda, yoga asana, pranayama and nutrition can bring balance to our lives. Yoga asana helps us bring balance to our body and mind, but we should find a right way to practice yoga. Through the breath we calm the nerves and the mind and we may find a deeper connection with our being. When breath flows freely through our practice we may find space to stay connected, aware and centered. Yoga is not only about physical asana – it is about finding peace within and accepting ourselves as we are. Through correct method we make our body strong, steady and at peace. And the mind follows the body.

Afternoon sessions will contain restorative yoga classes and talks on nutrition, lifestyle and yoga philosophy. We will discuss the importance of right nutrition to maintaining a steady body and mind, and how to stay happy, calm and centered.

About the Teacher Lana Lavanina (yoga teacher, ayurvedic nutrition and lifestyle therapist)

After graduating from the University of Jyväskylä in Finland in 2001 life took me to Seoul, South Korea. This is where my path of yoga began. Already after the first class I realized what an impact yoga would have on me.

I have always felt drawn towards a spiritual path. In 2003 I completed a formal training in Raja Yoga, (Raja Yoga means royal yoga which focuses on meditation as the means of transformation). However I wanted to take these studies further and I was encouraged by my friends and students to pursue it. So in 2004 I discovered Yoga Thailand. Through their Centered Yoga Training Program I was trained in all aspects of ashtanga yoga. The founder and my teacher Paul Dallaghan inspired me through his extensive knowledge to continue to cultivate physical, mental and spiritual health. I was truly honored when Paul invited me to assist with him at Yoga Thailand. Being under his guidance for a few years has been an invaluable experience. I also studied ashtanga yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath at the source of ashtanga yoga in Mysore, India.

During my time with Paul I was also introduced to Sri O.P. Tiwari one of the last remaining masters of pranayama and philosophy. His deep knowledge has taught me humility and devotion. I have studied pranayama many times with Tiwariji at the Kaivalyadham Institute in Lonavla, India.

Whilst in Mysore I began my studies into ayurveda. Ayurveda is the science of life that helps the body and mind return to its natural state of balance through diet, lifestyle and herbs. Ayurveda as well as yoga asana is a way of life that brings us closer to mother nature and to be in harmony with her. These practices have given me an even greater understanding of the holistic approach that the yogic practices can have on our bodies and minds. My main teacher is doctor Atreya Smith and I received the status of Ayurvedic Practitioner under his tutelage in 2011. I also studied with the well known ayurvedic doctor Sunil V. Joshi M.D. (Ayu) at the Vinayak Panchakarma Chikitsalaya in Nagpur, India. Upon completing the Ayurvedic Practitioners Program 2010-2012 (550hrs in basic training and 200hrs in clinical studies training) I was awarded the certificate for Ayurvedic Nutrition and Life-Style Therapist in 2012. I also study a Western clinical nutrition in Helsinki, Finland at Salus institute.

Lana Lavanina in Finland:

At the present moment I am living and working in Helsinki, Finland both teaching yoga and ayurveda as well as giving ayurvedic consultations. I regularly give retreats in e.g. Finland and Italy. Yoga has certainly transformed my life and I continue to grow spiritually through both studying and teaching. I feel that by transforming my inner world through my own practices I can be of greater service to others. I am truly blessed to pass on this wonderful tradition of Yoga, Pranayama and Ayurveda.
