The Retreat
The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres are very excited to bring the teachings of Swami Sivananda and Swami Vishnudevananda to Australia. A Sivananda retreat is a wonderful opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and deepen your experience of Yoga. Beginners are welcome. The daily schedule is based on the 5 points for radiant health and mental peace of Swami Vishnudevananda.
The Venue: Govinda Valley
Situated one hour south of Sydney in the luscious bushland of Otford, Govinda Valley is surrounded by spectacular natural beauty and is a short drive from several sparkling beaches. Bushwalking is abundant and nearby local businesses also provide such recreational options as horse-riding, hang-gliding, paint-ball and a tennis court.
The Teachers
Swami Kailasananda and Swami Bhagavatananda.
Both are senior disciples of Swami Vishnudevananda.
Swami Kailasananda has been trained by him directly to pass down the teachings of Swami Sivananda.
Swami Kailasananda is Yoga Acharya (spiritual director) of the Sivananda Ashram in France and the Sivananda Centres in Paris and London. She teaches with dynamism and inspiration.
Swami Bhagavatananda has many years of experience of teaching yoga and philosophy and is a very committed and enthusiastic teacher.
Daily Schedule during the Retreat
5.30 am Wake-up
6 am Meditation, chanting and talk
8 am Asanas and Pranayama
10 am Brunch
11am Free time
12 noon Nature Walk
2 pm Workshop or lecture
4 pm Asanas and Pranayama
6 pm Dinner
8 pm Meditation, chanting and talk
What to Bring
Sleeping bag or duvet with cover, comfortable clothes, comfortable shoes/sandals/walking shoes, towels and toiletries, yoga mat, meditation shawl, cushion to sit on, swimming costume, flashlight.
Accommodation
In shared rooms (4 – 6 beds per room, some beds are bunk beds) or personal tent.
Meals
Nutritious and delicious vegetarian food will be served twice daily.
Retreat Rules
To maintain the spiritual atmosphere, no meat, fish or eggs are allowed. No smoking, alcohol or drugs. Attendance at both meditations and yoga classes is mandatory.
Arrival/Departure
Free choice of dates.
