Description

Focusing the mind:

 on the breath, a symbol, yantra, candle flame, a dot or mantra greatly slows down the rapid series of thoughts and feelings that arise.

With regular practice, concentration on the object chosen for meditation gradually turns the mind towards becoming the witness to what arises.

This is described as dis-identification or un-cuppling the mind from its obsessiveness.
