Description:

The morning class will be an exploration of the universal movement

patterns of the body that make up the internal principles of practice

with the Ashtanga Yoga system. This workshop is open to all students

from all traditions, although we will be using the Ashtanga Series as

the foundation, the essential techniques of breath, vinyasa, bandha and

drishti, of action and counter-action - primary and secondary spirals,

will be experienced as a way of finding balance and freedom in movement.

The body is something like a combination lock and by learning the

combination we can unlock it's full potential while simultaneously

practicing meditation and devotion in motion, in a process that is both

joyous and inspiring and free from any dogma.

The afternoon class will be a talk into the heart of Yoga practice and theory. The

essential vision of Yoga will be explained along with the core concepts

of the philosophy of yoga and how to apply this wisdom into everyday

life. The techniques of Yoga breathing as it applies to asana practice

and the beginning stages of pranayama will be explored in a practical,

experiential way. This class setting will be 'workshop' style and open

to interaction, inquiry, fun and connection. Questions and answers will

be encouraged and there will be plenty of time to explore the more

physical aspects of the asana practice.

About Mark Robberds  |  www.markrobberds.com

Mark Robberds has been studying yoga since 1997. He is a Certified Ashtanga

Yoga teacher and has spent the last 13 years travelling regularly to

India to practice with  the late, legendary Guru Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois,

and his grandson R. Sharath, of Mysore.  He also trained as an

apprentice, from 1999-2005 with Eileen Hall, Matthew Sweeney and Paul

Frechtling at YogaMoves in Sydney.

Mark has studied extensively with some of Australia’s best yoga teachers including Dena Kingsberg,

Simon Borg-Olivier and Clive Sheridan, and his teaching reflects the

essence of all these influences. In 2004 Mark realised that in this

lifetime he wanted to wake up to his true purpose. A part of that

journey has been to travel all over the world, and to go deeper into

his own love of yoga, surfing, teaching and music, and in doing so,

find the thread that connects them all.

He has been teaching workshops, retreats and as a guest teacher, internationally since 2005.

Mark wishes to share the teachings of yoga in a way that inspires

people to develop a passion and love for the practice. He incorporates

the philosophy of yoga into his music and devotional songs, so that the

deeper aspects of the yoga tradition can connect people and bring them

closer together.
