Teaching yoga consists of more than simply the skills required to perform asanas correctly or knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ultimately, the path to teaching yoga with awareness and understanding involves deepening your own practice.
Byron Yoga Centre’s 8 week Teacher Training Course is fully recognised with Yoga Alliance and YTAA. It is designed to deliver holistic training that encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path.
Nationally Accredited 91485 NSW Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching - Full-time
Byron Yoga Centre’s 8 week Teacher Training Courses is Australia’s first, nationally accredited VETAB 91485 NSW Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching, Yoga Alliance 500 hour RYT (if you attend all sessions) and YTAA recognised. This course includes our Level 1 and Level 2 teaching qualifications.
This represents the highest possible qualification in yoga teaching that is recognised both in Australia and internationally. This is in addition to all of our teacher training courses still holding the internationally recognised Yoga Alliance Accreditation and eligibility for the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia.
In order to be able to offer this high standard of teacher training, Byron Yoga Centre is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Australia, and all our trainers are nationally recognised Training and Assessment trainers and assessors.
The new Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching doubles your qualifications in yoga teaching. It is designed to deliver holistic training that encompasses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path. The course is a VETAB accredited national course and has international standing as Australia has one of the most internationally recognised vocational education systems anywhere in the world.
The course is comprised of 10 units of competency that are transferable within the VETAB education system. These are;

In addition to this, the course still holds the internationally recognised Yoga Alliance 500 hour Accreditation and eligibility for the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia (350 hours). To offer this high standard of teacher training Byron Yoga Centre is now a RTO (Registered Training Organisation) in Australia which is similar to a TAFE, and all our trainers are nationally recognised training and assessment trained trainers.
There is an option to obtain your Senior First Aid Certificate during the course at an additional cost.
The course is a Centrelink approved short course. You may apply to Centrelink for Ausstudy, the Education Supplement or the Education Entry Payment.
The length of the course has been increased from seven to eight weeks, adding a further 40 contact hours.

Established in 1988 by John Ogilvie, Byron Yoga Centre is one of the longest running yoga schools in Australia. It is located about ten minutes walk from town and the beach.

John Ogilvie founder and director of Byron Yoga, John has been teaching yoga for over twenty years. He encourages a light heartedness in our approach to yoga and to ourselves.

Schedule
Attend regular early morning and evening meditation, pranayama and asana classes with a focus on sequencing of postures from 6.00 - 7.45am and from 7.00 to 8.00pm.
Attend practical and theory sessions between 9.00am and 12.30pm, then 2.00pm and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday
Workshops presented by guest speakers on specialised Yoga subjects are included
Included are five specialised general yoga classes per week for eight weeks, with a focus on yoga sequencing, adjustments, corrections and use of props
Spend a minimum of one-and-a-half hours per day doing assignments such as practising and recording meditation and pranayama sessions, doing anatomy and physiology homework or answering questions on previous days’ subjects, etc.
As part of the Level 2 course, trainees will teach morning classes at 6.00am and afternoon classes at 4.00pm
Weekend practice sessions and evening meditations are also available for those who would like to attend them (these are required to achieve the 500 hours).

Entry Requirements
A pre-requisite to the course is that learners have had a minimum of one hundred and twenty hours of class asana instruction over a two year period, which must be verified by their yoga teacher.
A requirement for entry into the course is that the participant has a history of regular committed practice of yoga for a period of at least two years.
A suitable assessment for English language competency may be used if required.
Students are required to demonstrate the equivalent of Australian High School Year 10 proficiency in literacy and numeracy
