Held in conjunction with our 12 day yoga teacher training and graduate program, this retreat provides a perfect opportunity to expand your yoga practice in a relaxed and tranquil environment. With Byron Yoga Centre's teaching team on site, you can be assured of a rich, varied and holistic experience of yoga while at the same time enjoying the exotic surroundings that Ubud has to offer; rice fields, cafes, Temples and local markets. It’s the ideal place to adjust to the Balinese way of life and the perfect launch pad for travelling around the island on your own after the retreat, if your schedule permits. Teachers
Our lead teachers offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share with participants. John Ogilvie, the founder and director of Byron Yoga Centre, has been teaching yoga for over twenty years. He encourages a light heartedness in our approach to yoga and to ourselves. Stephan Kahlert has over twenty five years’ experience as a meditation practitioner and teacher in the Soto Zen, Vipassana, Vedanta and yoga traditions. He has taught overseas on many occasions in his capacity as a meditation teacher. Stephan trained as a yoga teacher with John Ogilvie in 2005. He teaches meditation and Hindu philosophy on retreats and teacher training at the Centre. His style is light-hearted, humorous, engaging and fun. Lila Kirtana first discovered the healing benefits of yoga 8 years ago, and was immediately entranced by all aspects of the yogic lifestyle. In 2006 she became a Bhakti yogi, and whilst managing a yoga retreat centre in Sydney she first met John Ogilvie. Over time Lila completed her Level 1 and 2 training, and moved to Byron Bay. She teaches regular asana classes at the centre, is a qualified Massage Therapist, and teaches on the teacher training courses. Lila is passionate to share her love of yoga through Kirtan [spiritual chanting], and also teaches Ayurveda on the courses. Liz Dene BHMS is an international presenter with over 17 years experience, a master trainer for Network Pilates, teacher trainer for Byron Yoga and a senior presenter for the Australian Institute of Fitness. She has worked with organisations such as the Australian Rugby Union ‘Wallabies’, ChiBall International, Byron Yoga and Australian Fitness Network. With a degree in human movement Liz is currently studying a Masters in Human Nutrition, She merges traditional fitness practices with a holistic approach to wellbeing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Retreat Description Our retreats are suitable for people of all levels from beginners right through to experienced practitioners. Variations of poses are offered and there is the option to rest if necessary. The schedule is flexible and planned to maximise your experience of yoga whilst allowing free time to explore the surrounding area and engage with the local culture. Participants may settle into their accommodation from 2pm and a brief introduction to people and the retreat experience will be held at 4pm. The morning yoga classes start the following day and the retreat ends on the final day after morning yoga and breakfast.

Day Trips Various group day trips can be arranged during the free time (as an optional extra) or you may prefer to explore on your own or with just one or two friends in a local taxi. The retreat includes a guided rice field walk (min of 6 people required) and a Purification Ritual and Blessing ceremony to Tirta Empul temple. If you'd like to join in additional yoga, there may be the option to join in the teacher training intensive mid morning asana class. Areas of interest around the resort include:

Accommodation
Stay in a spacious room individually decorated with unique furniture and artefacts. The comfortable rooms all feature airconditioning, either queen or double beds and en-suite facilities. All rooms offer mosquito canopies and repellant coils, daily housekeeping, tea, coffee and two flasks of boiling water a day and front patio with table and chairs.

Cuisine
In keeping with the culture, the flavours are primarily Balinese however the resort can cater for all dietary requirements. Please advise of any special requests when you book your place and we’ll arrange suitable alternative meals for you. The dining area is a beautiful light filled space to enjoy socialising over delicious cuisine. Massage The resort is an oasis of rest and revitalisation offering a range of traditional and modern massage and wellness treatments for soothing your body and healing imbalances at very affordable prices. The retreat price includes a one-hour massage.

Activities
During your free time venture out and explore the ancient culture of Bali, or step into the local markets and shop with the locals. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages seems to consist of artists' workshops and galleries. There are some remarkable architectural sights, artistic gems to be found, and a general feeling of wellbeing to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place.
