World Yoga Day

Just a little heads up...
World Yoga Day is happening again this year.

It is happening again in early 2008.

Last year we raised over $19,000 USD, from countries all over the world:
We are in the planning stages at the moment, so if anyone is interested in helping organize, please contact me so we can get it moving!

Also, thinking about organizing a yoga retreat in Kerela India in early 2008, so let me know if that sounds interesting. It will probably be here, the beach and lake resort, nestled in amongst the back-waters of Kerela. Check out this little blog. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Yoga Expo

The Yoga Expo is comming up again this year. Sunday the 14th of October 2007. The venue is the same as the last couple of years, Warf 8. It is always a grand old time for the Sydney yogis, an oportunity to mingle with yogis both new and old. This year they are having:

Should be fun for all.
Not sure what the findyoga role will be this year, probably just put on the tee shirts and pass around business cards, although it would be good to have a presence on the material. the food is always top notch and the chai as well. I love all the little reiki stalls and massage clinics, that is always fun!

Practicing while we are sick

I am suffering from a mild wind-cold attack, That is Chinese Medicine for i'm sick, and trying to practice yoga is quite difficult at the moment! I meditated in bed for 17 minutes this morning, but then an hour later, I was woken up.

My point is that it is so hard to maintain the practice when we are not well. Ironically, this is probable when we need it the most. Maybe this is where our tapas, or buring desire kicks in. To burn through all adversity. I made it to Herbal clinic and was fortunate to have some acupuncture which has helped a bit, but still could not think about practicing.

Let's talk about Pranayama.
I think it is a bit confusing when people think of the practice. In yoga classes, there might be a few minutes dedicated to breathing, but very rarely do we go in-deppth into what it is for. Traditionally, pranayama is not meant to be taught until the student has advanced to a certain point and is ready for the powerful effects it has on the nervous system. I think that basic pranayama practices can be learned at any level, with the practitioner moving slowly and not over exerting themself.
